Own your story

It may be that unexpected changes or a desire for self-exploration has brought you to point where you are seeking therapy. Facing the good, bad and ugly of our lives can be daunting, yet empowering. You don’t have to merely endure the hard times; you can grow through them and experience new freedoms.

The clients I work with are motivated for change, willing to dig deep, share pain and get emotionally messy, with the understanding that progress lies on the other side of your comfort zone.  I know because I’ve been there too.

You don’t have to face this alone. I’m here to help you!

The therapy process

You can expect to learn practical tools to emotionally regulate and authentically express yourself. This will allow you the ability to accomplish more of what matters most to you!

Sessions are 50 minutes and highly personalized. While we often talk through things in therapy I also offer the expressive arts. It’s a way to express yourself that is receptive, expressive, symbolic and often speaks louder than words. It’s available to those who would like to try it.  We can decide together when and if this would be helpful.

I work with individual adults, men and women, teens, children, active military and veterans. My specialities include;

  • Addictions

  • Grief

  • PTSD

  • Trauma & Childhood Wounding

  • Personal Growth

  • Relationship Issues

  • Life Transitions

  • Military Life Style Issues

Addiction and Trauma

Individual counseling is a safe, nonjudgmental place to figure out whether or not you have an addiction. Addiction can show up in many forms, including but not limited to alcohol, drugs, food, sex and gambling.

Early-childhood trauma is strongly associated with developing risky behaviors, relationship and health problems in adulthood. We can sort this out together.

Whether you are uncertain about addiction or are in recovery with long-term sobriety and feel stagnant or newly in recovery and feeling overwhelmed. As a therapist rooted in sobriety I can support your healing from an expanded perspective.

Having done my own work in 12 Step programs, I will support you in using an approach that works for you. For many it is AA, Alanon and Adult Children of Alcoholics; for others it is SMART Recovery, Welbriety, Refuge Recovery and other support systems.

You will:

  • Learn to set boundaries and manage expectations

  • Learn to develop quality and long lasting intimacy

  • Learn to handle life without relapse

Military families

A life of service on the battlefront and home front results in a unique set of stressors and sacrifice. My father served in Vietnam and I’m honored to be of service now. Having worked closely with all branches of the military, Navy, Marines, Army and Special Forces, I’m aware of the subtle nuances between branches.  I have provided counseling CONUS and OCONS with all branches.

The impact of deployment and reintegration has an effect on all family members.  In some cases this can result in attachment injuries that make reintegration and connecting with others difficult.

My training in Emotionally Focused Couples and Family Counseling Externship Program has provided an additional skill set which brings deep healing to attachment wounds. I am dedicated to continuing my education and bringing the latest research to our work.

Please give me a call for a 15 min free consultation. 760-788-7485

I’m conveniently located in Mission Valley with office hours on Sundays.
